Major

The Women’s Studies Department offers a coherent interdisciplinary curriculum with a major field of study in the areas of gender and sexuality. Each student is required to take a total of 12 courses.

At the upper-division level, the department provides concentrations in gender and cultural production, gender and families, sexualities and gender, and gender and work.

Major Requirements
The major requirements for the B.A. degree in Women's Studies are as follows:

Students entering UCR Fall 2009 through Fall 2010

  • WMST 001
  • Two additional lower division WMST courses chosen from WMST 010, 020, or 030 (H).
  • WMST 100
  • WMST 191A and WMST 191B
  • Six Upper division WMST electives (one specifically focusing on Women of Color communities and one specific to sexualities)

    Total of 12 courses

Students entering UCR Fall 2011 or later

  • WMST 001
  • One additional lower division WMST course chosen from WMST 010, 020, or 030 (H).
  • One additional lower division WMST elective course
  • WMST 100
  • WMST 191A and WMST 191B
  • Seven upper division WMST electives (one specifically focusing on Women of Color communities and one specifically focusing on sexualities)

    Total of 13 courses

Elective Course Work

Upper-division Women's Studies courses or courses in another department that are cross-listed with Women's Studies.

Closely related upper division courses from other programs or departments may be substituted upon approval.
